Alright all you social media lovelies out there! I am all for it! Believe me :) I have been on Facebook since it started, but that's really been it. I'm aware of everything, I guess I never knew how to use it?? Actually, I think I just hadn't found my voice... I got on Twitter about a year ago, maybe longer, but I just didn't know what to do. I didn't have any friends using it, so it was tough connecting with people. So, I left. Well, I started blogging over a year ago. WHOA that seems so long ago...anyway, I started blogging and it took a few months to figure out what I wanted it to be, how I wanted to be portrayed and then I realized I just had to be me. I wanted to share with the world my life, whether they wanted to read or not and I wanted a place to always be able to go back to and read. I wanted a place to write letters to my future children, husband, nieces, nephews, whether I published them or not. And as I started reading other blogs and relating to others lives, I got back on Twitter. It was a great way to start connecting with the blogger world...and while I haven't made any solid connections, I think I'm on the right track. There are some pretty awesome people out there and I really hope that I will be able to build friendships out of it.
So, back to this seminar. I am one of two marketing people in our company and in all honesty, I don't do much marketing. Long story short, I am kind of the middle man with an advertising agency. This is good and bad. I am learning a lot through that, but I don't know enough or have the experience in marketing to know how to grow it and build it. Well, I've been there over 3 years now and I've learned a ton. It's been a good experience and as I've started social media on a personal level, we tried launching it company-wide this past year. Well, I wear a lot of hats and the time and knowledge to keep it up hasn't been the best. I think a little bit of fear of not really know what to do, is part of it, but I'm learning and that's all part of it. Things are growing and changing in the company and I'm determined to do well. I want to help change, I want to make a difference and show what I can do, so our executives are doing this package deal with Fred Pryer. They do tons of business seminars. I was graciously asked to participate in this and gladly accepted! Today, I got to attend a Social Media Marketing seminar down at the Galt House. I was nervous, didn't know what I was getting into and to tell the truth, I thought I knew everything. BUT it's different with a company and I needed some motivation and tips.

Y'all, I actually had so much fun! lol I learned a ton, got to meet some cool people and got to share tips of my own experiences. I'm excited to start working on it and I hope that I'll find the time to do it. It'll be great!
The funny thing is, I realized that social media is SOOOOO generational! Seriously, those in the twenties, early thirties, have grown up with social media. They at least know the different sites out there and venues to communicate. But, then there is a gap and people are LOST. Like not just lost, but can't even get the terminology right. So this was great for them, but almost overwhelming! It'll take some time and learning, but I was amazed that some of the companies were just starting social media, even just Facebook, but they really don't know how to use it... Thankfully, this seminar had some GREAT tips and the instructor was AWESOME and walked use through a lot of things. Even got on her own Facebook and Twitter accounts to give those unsure, a visual of what was out there.
I love the idea of any social media. It's an amazing way to connect and relate to others, get tips, support, information, laughs, anything. I enjoy writing about my life and hearing others in the same situation or putting a smile on someone's face. That's all I'm looking for. I don't need thousands of followers on twitter or my blog, or even a million friends on Facebook. It's about building relationships and communication.
It's connecting our entire world. I get people from other countries read my blog, and while I know they've stumbled upon it, it's out there. I've met people from across the country and then those just a few hours away. I love that there is this virtual world of people out there and we're all supporting each other without even knowing one another...
So, I'll take the tips I've learned, for both personal and professional use and I truly hope I can show some progress and what I can do!
What do you all think about social media?? It isn't going anywhere that's for sure. I can't imagine what our kids will have!! lol probably holograms or something..who knows.
